The 1980s were easily Logan's most impressive decade to date. The decade started off slow. Coach Snipes went 7-3 during his second year in 1980, but in his third and final year his troops went a dismal 1-8-1, easily the worst season in LHS History. Steve Coate followed Dave Snipes, and had equally disapointing campaigns. Keith Myers was a highlight though from 1983-1985, ending his career as #1 in every passing category in the record books. In 1985 a new head man came to town, and Clarence Perry would return Logan to dominance. He started right away, aided by a new rushing king (Kelly Wolfe) and Keith Myers, Perry's Chiefs won nine games in each of his first three seasons. The Chieftains finished a 9-2 in 1987, and became the first Logan team in school history to qualify for the state playoffs. the 1987 was also the first SEOAL Champion since the 10-0 squad of 1977. It was the first of three consecutive titles. Overall, Clarence Perry's teams went an astonishing 41-10, including a stellar 22-03 record in SEOAL play. The Chieftains won just three SEOAL titles in the decade, but it was the most for any one decade until the 90's.
Team Of the Decade:
The 1987 Chieftains finished the 1987 regular season at 9-1, their only loss coming in week four against perenial state power Columbus Desales 9-7. The Chieftains advanced to postseason play for the first time in school history, which led to a showdown with Sandusky up the road in Groveport. The Blue Streak had too much for the Chieftains though, and prevailed in the first round 21-07. The Chieftains were led on offense by Junior Quarterback Jimmer Breining and Senior Receiver Jose Medina. Paul Clark led the LHS ground attack. On defense Ryan Wilson had 137 tackles and Jose Medina intercepted four passes. Offensive Tackle and current LHS assisstant Curtis Rose was name 2nd Team All-State.
