Logan Plays Well in First Scrimmage of 2001

Just returned from Circleville. I don't know anything about Circleville's football program, but if it is good, then Logan is going to be pretty tough. Logan dominated the scrimmage. The scrimmage started out with both teams starting in the red zone, probably the 10 yard line. Logan scored 9 times out of ten, and Circleville only once out of ten. Penrod threw three TD passes from there, and Harden ran three in. Mong scored twice, and Penrod ran one in himself. Circleville got one nice run to put it in on their TD. Next they moved to the 20, their own that is, and Logan scored after just 3 plays. Logan scored on the next drive, a nice dump pass to Dicken, and then a big run from Harden. They were denied twice. Circleville only scored once from the same distance. Then they finally played some downs, and Logan started on their own 40. Harden had a big 20 gain, and then a tipped pass was intercepted. Logan had a little trouble for a while, but hen Harden broke a forty yard TD Run. Circleville couldn't score till the second string defense came in.

Bottom line is that we didn't learn much because Circleville had a hard time playing with the Chiefs.

The Good :
1. Derek Harden. I forgot how good he is. He is a star, and will have to carry the offense until Penrod is ready.

2.Penrod moved the offense really well. He didn't throw the prettiest passes, but he threw several TD passes, and had several nice scrambles.

3.The Defense was tough. A lot of HARD hits. The Backers and line are SOLID.

The BAD:
1.The defensive secondary looked weak. They will need some work. I know Coakley, Kline, Brandon, and Yates all saw time, it will be interesting to see who impresses the coaches the most and earns the starting roles.

2.The passing game. We had guys open all night, so there were some nice plays, but there wasn't much work involved.

Friday will be the real test, I think we'll learn a lot more then.
