Chieftains Earn Fourth Straight SEOAL Championship in Jackson

David Swisher of Jackson was as advertised on Friday Night. But Logan proved once again why they are the four time Champs. They always find a way to win. Logan led the whole game, but Jackson would not quit on their Senior Night.

Jackson fumbled on their first possession. The Chieftains would take advantage and drive down the field taking a 7-0 lead on a one-yard Derek Harden TD run. Jackson would be able to drive the ball but not score on the Chiefs in the first quarter. Logan put together a nice drive which found them inside the 15 yard line. On fourth down Penrod found Chad Kratzenburg over the middle, but DB Austin Arthur made a great play to bat the ball away.

The second quarter saw Jackson turn the ball over on downs and Logan punt once before the Ironmen put together a scoring drive. Behind several key runs by David Swisher, the Ironmen had a first down on the 12-yard line. On first down the Ironmen handed the ball to Swisher one more time, and he finally found the endzone and Logan and Jackson went to the locker room tied at 7.

In the third quarter, the Chieftains came out a drove down the field. The Chieftains had a first and goal once again. Once again Penrod threw a nice pass to Kratzenburg, but he couldn't quite hold on to his diving catch and the Chieftains had to settle for an Adam Puhl 31 yard field goal. Logan led 10-7.

Logan scored once more in the game, with 11 minutes to go the Chieftains marched down the field behind several big pass plays. Once again it was Derek Harden, from four yards out. The extra point was missed though after Max Resler's snap sailed HIGH.

In the fourth quarter the Ironmen put together another great drive. Once again it was David Swisher from 9 yards out. But the drive was aided, when on 4th and 12, Holdren threaded the needle for one of his few completions on the night, and found Erron Brennon who held onto the football although he was surrounded by a mass of white jerseys. Logan got a little revenge by blocking the extra point.

David Swisher had the best running game by an opposing back all year, amassing 187 yards on the ground.

Penrod completed 8 of 10 passes for 147 yards. His best passing game of the season.

Player of the game honors go to Adam Puhl and Jeremy Coakley. Puhl was the difference in the game and had great kick-offs and punts all night. Coakley was great on the reverse, caught 3 passes for 50 yards, and played outstanding on defense.

Logan returns to the playoffs Saturday. They will host Dublin Coffman at 7:00 PM at Bill Sauer Field.
