2004 Varsity Football Captains

(Posted 8/14/04)

The 2004 Varsity football captains were named earlier this week.  The player voted the following four seniors as captains for the 2004 season:

BJ Hughes, SR - SE/QB/CB

BJ Hughes is a two year starter on both offense and defense.  BJ has caught 24 passes for 255 yards in two years on offense, and has been one of the teams steadiest defenders on defense.  His speed and playmaking ability have made him one of the league's top threats.  BJ has played mainly Split End for the Chieftains, but will back up Corey Spackey at QB because the only other quarterback on the roster is a sophomore.  BJ was a basketball captain last winter and has proven himself a fine leader on and off the field.

Patrick Howe, SR - FL/CB

Patrick Howe is a two year starter on both offense and defense.  Patrick has caught 23 passes for 220 yards and rushed for 48 yards on 7 carries in two years on offense.  Patrick has also been a reliable cornerback for the Chieftain defense.  Howe is a steady performer who gives a consistent effort each week.  Patrick was named a basketball captain last winter by his peers, and has been one of the teams best leaders since his sophomore season.

Justin Pack, SR - TB/LB

Justin Pack is a two year lettermen and returning starter for the purple and white at linebacker.  Justin was named All-SEOAL and first team All-SE District as a Junior last year.  Justin was a solid performer at Outside Linebacker last year and one of the teams emotional leaders.  Justin started one game at tailback last year, carrying 21 times for 105 yards against Desales.  Justin run for over 4 yards per carry and 2 touchdowns in his two season on the varsity football team.

Ray Robinson, SR - OG/DE

Ray Robinson lettered as a Sophomore in 2002, and was the starting Center beginning last season.  However, one play in to the season opener at Westerville South, Ray seperated his shoulder and was lost for the season.  He has recovered from the injury and has moved from Center to Guard on the offensive line. He also has been getting reps at defensive end.  Ray was the leading vote getter for captain by his teammates and should know how to lead:  He's been on the field for the Chiefs as a ball boy since he was about 4 feet high.
