The Chieftains and the Generals battled it out in Thornville tonight with a slight drizzle at times. In the Varsity portion of the scrimmage the two defenses dominated, with Logan coming out on top in the two quarter scrimmage 7-0.

Logan's offense struggled to move the football through most of the first part of the scrimmage, both in the 10-play series and the first quarter. Logan put together a solid drive early in the second quarter, and but was shut down when Corey Spackey fumbled on the Sheridan 10-yard line. Big plays on the drive included a 15 yard Justin Pack run, a 15-yard Spackey-Jake Wolfe pass, and a great run by Justin Coakley/Justin Pack. Coakley fumbled 10-yards into the run, but Pack recovered and gained another 15.

Logan was able to force a fumble a couple series later, and the purple and white used the field position to move into scoring position. Justin Coakley carried the ball inside the five yard line, but a sack on second down moved the Chiefs back. Justin Coakley was stuffed on the goal line on third down, but on 4th down Coakley punched through for the score. Nick Poindexter added the PAT.

Sheridan came right back and drove down the football field, but Logan held the Generals out on 4 downs inside the 10-yard line.

The early troubles in the running game have to worry Logan. The offensive line looked good in passing situations, but seemed to struggle firing off the line and beating the Sheridan defenders. Sheridan's noseguard gave the Chiefs trouble all night long.

On defense, the Chiefs had a nice effort, but the ends still struggled with containment. Justin Coakley is still the main man in the middle, and the defensive backs had a great scrimmage. Jared Walton, Jacob Bray, and Rob Rose were all great on the interior line.

Corey Spackey continues to play well. He had the one mistake (the fumble), but aside from that, he was outstanding.

I didn't stay for a lot of the JV scrimmage, I had seen the Freshmen go earlier in the afternoon and my ride was ready to hit the road.
